Description
Juan is known to be extremely passionate about wildlife and the environment. He describes himself as a Biologist at heart, an Agronomist by the school, and a hotelier by trade. He studied agriculture and sustainable development at EARTH university and since then he has dedicated his time to high-end hospitality projects with sustainability values. During his time in the Osa Peninsula jungle, Juan was the general manager for Lapa Rios Ecolodge, a world-renowned property truly committed to sustainable development. During his management, the hotel was recognized as one of the most prestigious by Conde Nast, Travel and Leisure and Andrew Harper.
He then married his wife Cindy and embarked on a one-year honeymoon around the world, visiting the most off-the-beaten-path destinations they could find, looking for wildlife and cultures threatened by inevitable global development. During this adventure they found themselves doing over 400 dives off the coast of Borneo, taking week-long hikes into the forest of Papua New Guinea and sleeping on the floor of the last Kalinga tribe tattoo artist, a 92-year-old woman whose job was to tattoo the headhunters on the highlands of Luzon in the Philippines.
Upon their return to Costa Rica, Juan and his wife opened up a scuba diving center committed to education, research and conservation in Santa Teresa, the place he learned to love since he was 2 years old. Both his kids were raised here and they love to explore together the natural wonders of the peninsula. He continues to be involved in several hospitality projects in Costa Rica and has recently joined the 2Costa Rica team as a real estate agent.
